Bulkhead seal
![]() |
General
The Cedervall bulkhead seal type CBS is an emergency seal that is normally not operating but is engaged automatically in case water appears at either side of a bulkhead, preventing flooding of adjacent compartments.
Execution
The CBS consists of two major parts; The housing and the rotor, which are both split as standard. The design of the CBS allows the seal to be placed on either side of a bulkhead since the rotor can work in both directions. During normal operation the rotor is moving with the shaft creating almost no friction/heat. In the case of flooding on either side of the bulkhead, the water pressure automatically engages the seal so that the rotor is pressed against the housing preventing water from entering. Although almost no wear occurs under normal circumstances, the inspection and possible maintenance is easily accessible.
Options
The flange part of the housing is split and can be designed in different sizes allowing large openings in the bulkhead for the flanges of the shaft.
